Answers:

  1) Tom 5 / 5 - 3 / 5 = 2 / 5 left
       a) 5 units = 360
           1 unit   = 360 / 5 = 72
           2 unit   = 72 x 2 = 144

           Tom had $144 after buying a computer game.

        b) Jane = Same money left as Tom
            So Jane also Left 144
            Received = 144 + 120 = 264

            She received 264 from her mother.

  2) First day        U   U   U   U   U
      Second day    U
      Total = 6 units
      456 / 6 = 76
      76 x 23 = 1748
      5 units = 76 x 5 = 380
      1st day = 380
      380 ducks = 23 x 380 = 8740

      Mr Tan collected $8740 on the first day.

  3) Assumption question, 27 heads, so start by dividing it by 2 first, then decide whether to +1 or -1
      27 / 2 = 14 + 13

      Duck (2 legs)    Cows (4 legs)     Total
      14 x 2 = 28        13 x 4 = 52          80
      13 x 2 = 26        14 x 4 = 56          82
      12 x 2 = 24        15 x 4 = 60          84

  4) Area of rectangle B = 9 x 4 = 36 cm2
      Area of X (rectangle B) = 1 / 6 x 36 = 6 cm2
      Area of X (rectangle A) = 6 x 8 = 48 cm2

      Unshaded A = 48 - 6 = 42
      Unshaded B = 36 - 6 = 30
      Total = 42 + 30 = 72 cm2

      The area of the unshaded part of figures A and B is 72 cm2

  5)  1/4 convert to denominator of 8 = 2/8
       1/2 convert to denominator of 8 = 4/8
      Total milk = 3 1/8
       Mr Lee drank  = 3 1/8 - 2/8 = 2 7/8
       Mrs Lee drank = 2 7/8 - 4/8 = 2 3/8

       2 3/8 L of milk was left in the jug.
