Android Font Not Supported | Samsung Font Not Supported

This is the solution on how to set custom fonts without root into your Samsung Android 6 Marshmallow and Android 7 Nougat.

This Samsung Android not supported error comes from Samsung A7 2017 (android 6 marshmallow) and S7 Edge (android 7 nougat) while helping a Myanmar friend to change the custom font downloaded from Google Play Store.  The custom font was Zawgyi Samsung.

Samsung Galaxy Phone system error message:

Font not supported.  This font is not supported.  Contact the phone provider.  Uninstall this font?

Further research confirm that Samsung Galaxy android 6 and above are all blocked from changing to their own custom fonts.

Fortunately, after about 3 days of research, I was able find a way to change it to my own downloaded custom fonts without rooting.

Step 1: Download ADB Driver for Windows into your PC or Laptop

click ADBDriverInstaller.exe to install your ADB Drivers

or

Manually add in the drivers if the installation was not successful.

Download file link: adb_driver.zip

Manual steps:

Windows Device Manager

  • Action
  • Add legacy hardware
  • Next
  • Install the hardware that I manually select from a list (Advanced)
  • Next
  • Show All Devices
  • Have Disk
  • Browse
  • Select the adb_driver folder
  • Select android_winusb.inf
  • Open
  • Ok
  • Android ADB Interface
  • Next
  • Next
  • The following hardware was installed: Android ADB Interface
  • Finish
Repeat again the Device Manager installation for:
  • Android Bootloader Interface
  • Android Composite ADB Interface
Now, plug in you Samsung Galaxy Phone and you should get a Windows update for SAMSUNG Android ADB Interface.  Restart Windows after the updates.

Step 2:Download Minimal ADB Fastboot (minimal_adb_fastboot_v1.3.1_setup.exe) for Windows into your PC or Laptop

On your Samsung Galaxy phone, make sure you on the USB Debugging mode under Developer options.

If you cannot find your Developer options in your phone Settings:

Click About device

  • Software info
  • Build number - Tap until you see the message Developer mode enabled
Once your USB Debugging mode is on, you can proceed with the ADB command

In the Minimal ADB Fastboot windows command prompt:

Type:

adb.exe

adb devices

Copy this PM command and past it after the "$" sign on the Minimal ADB and Fastboot:

pm grant jp.co.c_lis.ccl.morelocale android.permission.CHANGE_CONFIGURATION
(select and right click your mouse to copy)

Hit Enter after the copy command
(park your cursor and right click your mouse to paste)

Once done type:

  • Exit
  • Exit
Yes, it is twice

List of devices attached Missing

This step is not required if the adb devices command was able to list your phone device successfully.

If nothing was show, then you got to install the Google USB Driver and restart your PC or Laptop.

Download Android Studio for Windows into your PC or Laptop

Once installed, go into SDK Manager

Install Google USB Drive, click Apply and OK

Step 3:Download MoreLocale 2 from Google Play store into your Samsung Galaxy Phone and select your default language for your phone.

In this case, my Myanmar friend selected English (Zawgyi)

Step 4: Finally you are done setting your default custom font without rooting your phone which will void your warranty.  My Myanmar friend check her Facebook and was able to see all the characters correctly.

However for those using the S7 Edge (android 7 nougat), when you reboot your Samsung Phone, you have to tap into MoreLocale 2 and tap the language again to set the default.  In the Top right screen, where you see three tiny dot, you can Add the default language shortcut which will stay on top of the screen.  It is a little inconvenience but most of us seldom restart our phone anyway and it just a 5 seconds click to get your default language.

Those using the Samsung A7 2017 (android 6 marshmallow) does not face this issue even after reboot.  The default language did not change in MoreLocale 2 even after a reboot.
