Today, there are many traditional brick and mortar companies which have been in existence for several years or many years which are now jumping on the network marketing concept band wagon. Once called the multi-level marketing (MLM) industry, which now prefers to be called network marketing, is a concept where distributors are paid on the sales of people who sign up under them. It is assume that the companies pay the "advertising" costs to the distributors although the products are generally higher priced than similar products sold in stores. There are numerous type of compensation plans, and people have the possibility of being paid a percentage of sales some levels deep and/or wide of those signed up under them. There are quite a dozens of liquid nutritional supplement and vitamin related companies in the health and wellness arena which sell their products through network marketing, an industry which has come of age. Indeed, most products available for sale in the marketplace may be purchased through multi-level marketing. Amway seems to sell almost everything a person could want. The people who sign up for a mlm biz must buy a certain dollar amount of product each month in order to qualify for commissions. Most of the distributors will buy the products with the hope of someday recouping their costs and seeing a profit. The companies make a lot of profits from those new distributors who buy products for a period of time and then quit before they make any money. Even long time critics not in the biz anymore admit that MLM can have merit, especially in these difficult economic times. At first, people may sign up as a distributor, representative, or consultant in a particular company for a minimal amount of money (as compared to starting a traditional retail type of business which could cost hundreds of thousands of dollars). The possibilities are huge, and there are people who become millionaires or make a lot of money in a relatively short period of time. Yet for most people who start a part-time network marketing business never find success. They may end up spending more than they can afford without making a cent. The financial loss to them is relatively small, however, when compared to traditional businesses which fail. Companies in regular businesses jump on the network marketing band wagon to share in the wealth which many of these companies create with a loyal customer base. Just as people who sign up will usually fail, most companies which take that route also fail in the first few years. The giants in the industry are an exception rather than the rule. The opportunities are plentiful in network marketing. People must realize that it is probably not as easy as they were told when they were introduced to the opportunity. There is a good chance for success although only a small percentage will find it. With many companies switching to this method of business operation, the opportunities are plentiful if the right fit and company can be found by the distributor.
