I got rid of linux ages ago but when I did whenever I tried to load I just got some grub loader thing and have no idea how to remove it without stuffing up my comp! I think it's in the master boot record or something so till now I've been using a boot up program but want to just go back to booting straight into Windows.

Boot to the recovery console (F8 on startup) if you can, I'm not sure if XP home gives you this option, xp pro and w2k do. Then use fixmbr to get xp to overite the mbr.
Theres also a similar way using a win98 boot disk if you dont have the F8 option, something like fdisk /mbr.
search on google for remove grub for more info.

But how about if you are dual booting with win xp or win 2k, how do you uninstall linux but keep windows. this is what I want to do with my laptop cause space is limited and need to keep windows on , sorry all you open source lovers, but I keep it on my desktop and install on laptop later when hard disk is upgraded, cheers.

In XP go to Control Panel - System - Advanced - Startup and Recovery - Settings
Click on Edit, remove any lines referring to Linux.

You should be left with something like this:

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect /NoExecute=OptIn

To remove the Linux files fromthe hard disk simply delete the folder they are in. Linux probably created partitions which will have to be reformatted to FAT32 or NTFS for use with Windows.

To see what is on the partitions in XP, go to My Computer, click on Manage then click on Disk Management.

You can format from there.

The instructions I gave you we're for getting back to just win in a dual boot system they just replace grub with the win boot loader.

The previous instructiosns are for editing the win bootloader, this will not remove grub, it would remove the option to boot linux if you'd been using the win bootloader instead of grub.
