The
Onus for Self-Improvement
Look out for yourself. The onus for self-improvement, attitudinal change and career management is on the individual. Tell yourself that you will stay in a job as long as you don't stagnate. Constant self-improvement is a must and being interested in your chosen field would help. Research has shown that up to half of your current knowledge will become redundant in 36 months. So, technically you can become obsolete in just three years. If you do something that you love, you will find the time to improve yourself because of your greater motivation. You should consider yourself as a self-employed service provider and treat your new employer as a customer you need to nurture. This attitude is beneficial because you are encouraged to present your service in such a way that your customer wants to keep employing you. And if you are made redundant, it is easier to look for another customer instead of being torn up over any perceived betrayal.
