Over The Phrase You Can’t Do
That
"Be careful the environment you choose for it will shape you; be careful the friends you choose for you will become like them." *-- W. Clement Stone "The secret of greatness is simple: do better work than any other man in your field - and keep on doing it." *-- Wilfred A. Peterson "Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see." *-- Mark Twain --- You can’t do that, does this phrase sound familiar? I am pretty sure you heard it before. Families and friends will tell you that when you communicate one of your life’s desires or dreams. You probably shared the information expecting them to be happy about your new venture. But, guess what? The response you get is: You can’t do that, you are crazy, why don’t you do this instead etc. Phrases like those can be fatal for the dreamer. Especially if the dreamer admires the person responding negatively; an individual can believe the statement, get paralyze and will never even dare to go an extra mile. If you are thinking I am wrong and that family and friends are always supportive. Then go ahead, I encourage you to share one of your innermost desires. Some that you may have dug so deep because you think it is almost impossible. Therefore, you restrain from sharing it because you are afraid others will think you are crazy. See how some of them that truly believe in you might support you, others will tell you flat out: Do not waste your time dreaming, while others will be more subtle and say nothing but, you can still feel their negative energy. The reasons for their reactions may vary. Some of them maybe trying to protect you from failure, others may feel a little jealous; while others simply have a negative outlook on life. However, whether their reactions are positive or negative it truly has nothing to do with you. It is more about their own personalities and outlook in life. Only you have the capability to expand your horizon. So, what ever others say or think about you does not really matter. Imagine Thomas Edison would have believed the teacher that released him from class because he thought the boy was of inferior intelligence. Now, Edison is remembered as one of the greatest contributors of our society. So when it comes to your aspirations you can still share them with your friends and family. After all we are social beings and it makes us feel alive when we share part of us with our loved ones. Just remember do not rely too much on others opinions. Listen to your heart.
