KPI in SAP PM Measurement

Do anyone have a suggestion for a good KPI?  One that reflects on the work not the hours spent.

KPI's can be anything you want or your organisation feels it is important to measure.

With the exception of a few standard reports (analysis, list edits) SAP PM is poor in reporting actual KPI stats (ignoring BW of course).

So in most cases I have recommended using the list edits (work orders / notifications) to provide data that can be sorted, filtered and arranged in MS Excel.  Using the list edits in this fashion often provides sufficient data to provide KPI's.
Alternatively where access is permitted the relevant plant maintenance tables can be analysed using SE16.
All really depends on the KPI's you want, in some cases custom ABAP reports (or BW) are written to provide the relevant data.

Examples of KPI's that can be established by analysing data either via list edits or table entries:

Number of work orders by:

Type
Type and priority
Type and period (created / changed)
Type and maintenance activity type
Type and status (how many are open, closed in a period)
Type and work centre
Type and plant
Type, object, other responsibilities such as planner group
Type and other location assignments (abc, location, hazard)
Type by account assignment
Type with costs (plan / actual)

Number of notifications by:

Type
Type and status
Type and work centre
Type and plant
Type and period
Type and priority
Type and breakdown

Maintenance planning:

Number of work orders created from maintenance plans per period, location etc.

Equipment / Functional Locations

Number created per period
Changed per period
Number per plant, location etc.
Number per manufacturer, construction year etc.
Number per work centre and other responsibilities

Does anyone have information on KPI’s for SAP maintenance releases?

The SAP Maintenance strategy provides many benefits :

Its a strategy for all requests for maintenance;

Integration of all aspects of plant maintenance processes, including planning, materials, labor reporting, and accounting
in real time;

  • Overtime worked against plan
  • PM schedule compliance
  • Time taken to answer maintenance calls
  • Budget compliance
  • PM Backlog man-hours
  • Critical Equipment availability (Don’t worry about non-critical equipment)
  • Number of breakdowns (Unplanned maintenance)
  • Production equipment performance (By output volume levels)
  • Equipment performance (with respect to quality)
  • MTBF
KPI Example as applied to a Production Process.

Let's say that we are monitoring the production output from a critical machine. Maximum output volume from the machine is 1250 widgets per hour but rather than drive it at full speed production volumes are set at 1000 widgets per hour. Output is monitored as a KPI on a one hourly.
