Persistence Pays
If you operate by the principle of persistence, you should not be so easily discouraged by the Market falling. Fundamental long-term investors purchase the same amount of stocks or unit trusts every month, no matter what the market is doing. These are the people who actually get excited when the prices of stocks are falling. They know that next month, they will be buying more shares with the same amount of money. In the long run, they're the ones who become wealthy. This is known as Time diversification. Ask yourself, after so many years of ups and downs, is the Dow heading lower or higher.
