Answers:

  1) a) Garden = 12 x 6 = 72 m2
      b) 12 + 2 + 2 = 16
           6 + 2 + 2 = 10
          10 x 16 = 160
          Pathway = 160 - 72 = 88 m2

  2) Spent 15    Gave Mei Mei 9    Don = Mei Mei = 9
      15 + (9 + 9) =33
      3u = 33
      1u = 33 / 3 = 11
      Don 4 times of Mei Mei = 11 x 44 = $44
      Don have $44 at first.

  3)  Total = 77 + ?
       Group 5 and 7 means need to be able to divide by 5 and 7
       Guess and check method:
       For start use 77 + 5 + 7 = 89
       89 - 1 = 88   Failed (cannot divide by 5 or 7)
       90 - 1 = 89   Failed
       91 - 1 = 90   Pass    (can be divided by 5)
       91 - 5 = 86   Failed (cannot be divided 7)
       92 - 1 = 91   Failed (cannot be divided 5)
       93 - 1= 92    Failed
       94 - 1 = 93   Failed
       95 - 1 = 94   Failed
       96 - 1  = 95  Passed (can be divided by 5)
       96 - 5 = 91   Passed (can be divided by 7)
       96 - 77 = 19
       There are 19 student campers in class 5B

  4) 672 / 7 = 96
      96 x 6 = 576
      576 - 35 = 541
      96 + 35 = 131
      541 - 131 = $410

  5) 33 - 7 = 16
      48 - 17 = 31
      33 + 28 + 16 + 22 + 48 + 22 + 31 + 28 = 288
      300 - 228 = 72 cm
