Singaporean seems to be the target of scams and it make
me wonder whether are we too gullible to just believe whatever the scammer
says. The trick no matter how they twist their story always end up
requesting that you should send them money and the problem will be settled.
Hang Up the Phone If you get a China accent calls, hang it up, most likely they are just scammers. Parcel Phone Scam Recently, the police had warn Singaporean about the parcel phone scam. First, you will get an automated call from a courier company telling you that your personal particulars was used to send parcels and it contained fake passport or weapons or something else as they keep improving their story lines. Yes, automated calls and if you take the bait and follow their instruction, then your call will be transfer to a real person who claims to be a customs or police officer. Then the scammers will ask you to provide your personal particulars such as your name, IC number, home address and most importantly your passport number and bank account details. Finally, they will asked you to transmit funds over to them as administration and to make sure that you are not on their dangerous list and will not be ban from visiting China. Police Advice
Share your scam information with the police so that more Singaporeans can be warn and do talk to your loved who can't read, people like your parents or grandparents. |
