Personal Strategy

My game is not to buy and sell stocks actively, but to invest in a business using the stock market. If I have selected a well run business, chances are that it will earn more over time, and pay me an increasing stream of dividends over time. As a result, I would not do anything about my investment in this business, for as long as it keeps on delivering results. I would not even care if the stock market closed for ten years. This is the only way to maintain your edge and sanity in the market, especially if you are a small investor. In fact, I believe ordinary dividend investors have an edge over everyone else on SGX because they can ignore short-term price fluctuations, and have the permanent capital to take a long-term approach to investing.

Invest Like The Rich

"Wealthy investors understand that market corrections are as much as rallies, and they can be brought about by bad news or food news.  The average investor always overanalyzes when prices become weak and loses his common sense.  So, how do the rich invest?  Unlike the average investor, the rich think long-term, most rich do not engage in short-term speculation but have a long-term goal in mind.  They make use of risk  by taking advantage of risk.  They understand the risk and embrace risk."  *-- Ben Fok

Reits

As reported by SGX, Singapore's Eight Retail REITs Averaged One-Year Returns of 14%.  Singapore’s Retail REITs saw average total returns of 13.7% over the past 12 months and maintain an average dividend yield of 6.1%.  Lippo Malls Indonesia Retail Trust, Frasers Centrepoint Trust, Starhill Global REIT, CapitaLand Retail China Trust and CapitaLand Mall Trust had the highest price gains in the 2015 year thus far, averaging 6.8%.  Dividend distributions boosted the year-to-date return of these REITs to 9.8%, bringing their average one-year and three-year dividend inclusive returns to 11.6% and 43.4% respectively.

STI ends week higher on positive news from US.  Markets expect Fed to confirm rate hike this year at meeting next week.

It is an eye torture if you were to look at the market beginning of week as the falling knife really cut.  However, the market did end not too badly as the week ends.  You can also see some worry comments from investors this week who tried to buy during this panic time.

"Bought more of Silverlake today at $1 thinking price has stablised but no it continued its slide to 0.955, what is happening to this share? Any new inputs to this share."

Action For the week
This week bought Religare Health Trust @ 1.02

Religare Health Trust is a business trust that provides medical and clinical establishment services in India. It has a portfolio of 11 clinical establishments, 4 greenfield clinical establishments, and 2 operating hospitals. The company was founded in 2011 and is based in Singapore.

Outlook for the coming year

FY2015 saw healthy growth in the Indian healthcare industry, which can be seen in the increase in Variable Fee and Hospital Income earned by RHT as well as the improvement in ARPOB. Management is taking steps to capitalize on the growth in the healthcare industry through the addition of more operating beds in its current Clinical Establishments. There were a total of 103 beds added in FY2015 organically and 298 operating beds added inorganically via acquisition. RHT is also in the midst of developing one greenfield project which would add 79 beds to the RHT portfolio upon completion. There are also a number of other expansion projects taking place at RHT’s current Clinical Establishments. Once completed, these expansion projects would add approximately 492 beds to RHT’s portfolio between the financial years of 2016 and 2017.

Mr Dhillon further commented, “The growth in the healthcare industry, particularly in India, remains promising as demonstrated by RHT’s results. We are confident in our abilities to partake in this growth. Currently, more than 97% of our Clinical Establishments are tertiary and quaternary medical facilities which are focused on the provision of speciality and multi-speciality medical treatments. Provision of Clinical Establishments aimed at quaternary to tertiary care will remain our focus in the coming year where greater affluence and healthcare awareness in India, has seen an elevation in demand for more sophisticated and specialized medical treatments”.

As at 31 March 2015, RHT’s gearing remained at a relatively low level of 13.6%.
